==================
We have to additions to Temarikai - three Japanese books have been
added to the Japanese Books listing - find them on page 3 of the
Japanese Book
Listing in the Resources section of TemariKai.com
Another new pattern has been added, to page 4 of the TemariKai Pattern
Index in the Patterns section. Thanks to Sue H, who has contributed a
traditional Kiku Crane pattern that she learned from Sensei Ozaki,
while under Sensei's tutelage in Tokyo. Advanced beginners on up will
be able
to work this and it's a great temari tradition.
More to come shortly... enjoy.
That's it for now - be well,
Ginny

Please remember to add your email to the new Temarikai News server on
Bravenet and follow up with the confirmation note.. Those on Hotmail,
and anyone else that may be saying "I didn't get an opt-in note like
you are talking about" - please be sure that your spam filter and/or
firewall settings are adjusted to accept mail from bravenet.com or you
will not receive mail and no long be kept up with TK News. The
Topica version will be discontinued shortly due to the
uncontrolled advertising.
Ok - now there really IS news! Joan Z has contributed notes to set up
the "parasol" stitching element/design so that you can stitch it in
color swirls, using two or more colors. It adds a neat dimension to the
finished appearance and once you see how to get it going, it's easy to
use in your patterns. Find it in the Patterns section of TemariKai.
And - there is a new slogan design available on shirts and totes in the
Temari Shop on Cafe Press. Go to http://www.cafepress.com/temarishop or
the Shop section of Temarikai - and check out the "Wrap, Stitch and Be
Happy. Make Temari!" items now available. T shirts, polo shirts and the
tote bag are available now.... more goodies with this slogan coming
shortly.
Remember that if you are getting two copies of TK News you are set up
to continue receiving TK News.... if not, sign up again with Bravenet.
Thanks - that's it for now.

Hi everyone...
We have two new patterns on Temarikai.com - the first is a neat tiger
pattern, from Debi A. Find it on page four of the Temari Patterns on
TemariKai.com, in the patterns section.
The other pattern is the result of a new activity on TalkTemari. A
pattern is requested or suggested from a list member and then
collectively it's worked out on the group. These are called StitchAlong
patterns - the compiled pattern information is then posted on
TemariKai. You'll see a new index page on the contents page of the
Patterns section on TemariKai.com. There will be two levels of
StitchAlongs - one for everyone and one that is for more advanced
stitchers.
We've innaugurated the idea on TT (where it was requested this past
winter) with a butterfly pattern that starts out simply but depending
on the color combos you use can challenge you a bit more. Find it on
the StitchAlong index in the Patterns section of TemariKai.com.
And some news - many of you know about Sophia Books in Vancouver, BC as
a great source to order Japanese Temari books, and it is Kiyoko at
Sophia Books that has been so helpful to us in providing the book
information and at times assisting in translation for us. Kiyoko has
let me know and now asked me to pass on to you that things are changing
at the store - she will no longer be working there full time. However,
she will be consulting one day a week to still assist with Japanese
books and orders. Please remember this as you contact her (which you
can still do as per the information on TemariKai - see
Japanese books info in Resources) and allow sufficient time for her to
reply to you, given these new arrangements. Please join me in wishing
Kiyoko well as her life takes on some new directions. She is a good
friend to all of us.
That's it for now...
Ginny T.
ps - please remember about the change-over in newslist providers - see
the note following:

==================
Things have been a little quiet the past few weeks, at least
here on TemariKai News... since we have just held the annual Temari NY
StitchIn here at my home... 13 people converged from 12 states in
the US as well as Great Britain for a weekend of stitching, hilarity
and wonderful sharing. The reviews and photos will be on TemariKai.com
very soon....
Back to basics here though... There is a new Mystery Ball
pattern, courtesy of Sandy E. - find it on the Patterns Contents
page in TemariKai.com. The previous Mystery Ball from Glenna I think
finally did most people in - not too many sent in results (one, to be
precise!) and we did know that it would be a
challenge to be done as a Mystery Ball. Rather than moving it to the MB
Archives, it will be reposted in the regular patterns of TemariKai -
watch for the announcement that it has been added there.
An IMPORTANT piece of news - I will be
transferring TemariKai News to a new list provider. This is due
to the overwhelmingly huge amount of advertising that Topica has now
incorporated as its financial support. It not only makes it very
difficult to join the list, but also there is no control over what ads
appear with TemariKai News and at times it does become less than
desirable. As soon as the conversion is complete it will be
a paid service provided by Temarikai (you will not pay, I do to provide
it to you). Since the changeover has to be done by me literally moving
all of the email addresses it will take a little bit - and once it is
done then I will change to a paid service. This will eliminate the ads
and other things that we've had to accept for free services.
This is the REALLY IMPORTANT part -
when I add your email address to the new TemariKai News on Bravenet,
you will receive an "opt-in" note from Bravenet and you MUST reply to that note in
order to activate your subscription on the new TemariKai News.
If you do not, you will no longer receieve TK News after this old
edition on Topica is discontinued this summer. So, over the next
weeks be on the lookout for a confirmation email from Bravenet for
Temarikai News and follow the directions it it to remain on Temarikai
News in the future. This is for your protection to be sure that you are
not being subbed to an email list that you don't want to be on.
You don't need to do anything else other than replying to the opt-in
note to continue receiving TemariKai News.
Have fun with the Mystery Ball, and watch for more Temari happenings
coming -
That's it for now,
Thanks
Ginny

We have two new patterns, thanks to Joan and Glenna - find them
on page four of Temari Pattern Index in the Pattern section of
Temarikai.com
Also, readers have sent in photos to be added to the Black and White,
Variegated, and "Bits Balls" album pages - in the Album section of
Temarikai.com. Remember that you are invited to participate in the
pages listed there now, and we'll also be starting some new ones soon
so stay tuned.
If you have worked the Mystery Ball remember that you are invited to
submit your result to be posted as well.
Vikki Clayton has a limited supply of Reeled Silk, the last kilo
available, that she has dyed off into color kits of 14 skeins. Her
website shows the kits - you'll get the 13 colors shown plus one
"surprise" color... go to http://www.hand-dyedfibers.com
and the "misc" tab to check it out. I have no business connection with
Vikki - she is just a great friend to temari stitchers.

We have four new patterns - seems spring is inspiring folks to
crank up the floral patterns.... Anastasia has a very nice
Kiku/Chrysanthemum variation, and Glenna has been busy making
sunflowers. Find them on page 4 of Temari Patterns, in the pattern
section of Temarikai.com. Thanks to these ladies.....
Another Album page for inspiration has been launched - one for "Bits"
or "Rag" or "Orts" temari - whatever you would like to call them
- showing how you can save those thread snippets and combine them into
wonderful colorful pattern variations. Thanks to Anne Wimer for kicking
this page off - and everyone is welcome to contribute to this or the
other group album pages if you are working temari in any of the themes
listed (more theme inspiration coming soon...) - Find them in the Album
section of TemariKai.com
And, we've been talking about using silk fibers on TalkTemari a lot
lately - a few gals contributed their thoughts and we now have a page
in the Help and How section with info and tips on using silk to make
temari - thanks to Debi and Janet....
That's it for now...
March 4, 2005
=========================
We have another new pattern - contributed by Sue C, on page 4 of
Temari Patterns in the Patterns section of TemariKai.com
Also, the new album pages have been launched... in the Album section of
TemariKai. In addition to consolidating or moving other photo pages
into one place, there are new pages designed to be inspiration to show
how various themes or threads can be used in temari, and kick up the
creative juices. To start there are pages for using Variegated Threads,
themes of Color-on-Color and also Black and White.
There is also a page for those folks using silk threads from Vikki
Clayton http://www.hand-dyedfibers.com/- someone who has become a nice
friend of temari makers. She dyes her own silk floss and pearl and many
temari crafters have found these threads to be wonderful to work with
as well as nicely affordable. (I have no business connection with
Vikki).
You are welcome and invited to submit photos for inclusion into any of
these pages as shown as long as they "fit" the criteria of the page.
More album pages for showing various themes, techniques or other
special applications will be following soon.
That's it for now...

Four new patterns have been added from contributors Linda W and Glenna
K - which now launches a fourth page in the pattern index on
TemariKai.
Find them in the Patterns section, page 4; thanks to these ladies for
their contributions.
Kiyoko of Sophia Books in Vancouver BC Canada forwarded the current
stock and price list for their inventory of Japanese Temari Books....
find the info on the Sophia Books pages in the Resources section of
TemariKai. Kiyoko will help you with ordering any of these books...
this info is provided only as a service to you as a source for Japanese
books, I have no business connection with Sophia Books.
Remember that if you are working the Mystery Ball and would like to
submit a photo of your results, just email it to me for inclusion in
the sample result photos when we post them...And, we're also building
album pages for temari worked in specific themes - Black & White as
well as using variegated threads. If you would like to be included in
any of these album pages with all due credit to your work email me your
photos... please be sure to rename the file with your name. These pages
will be posted shortly to inspire and share.

Two new additions - Carolyn V has submitted a pattern to make
either Bunny or Kitty temari - her version shows the kitty but she
tells you how to adapt it to a Bunny, just in time for spring and
Easter... and the Kitty is sure to please all of the kitty and pet
lovers out there. Find it on Page 3 of the Temari Patterns in the
Patterns section of Temarikai.com
A past GITS round on TalkTemari included a temari being made by Elsie
B., with a super easy way to make applique inserts/addons for use on
temari, especially with patterns that are wraps. Elsie did hers with a
basketweave over it - looks great. Her technique lets you turn almost
any little cutout into an applique that easily can be incoporated into
temari embellishments. Find it in the How To Section of TemariKai.com
Thanks to both of these ladies for sharing...

First of all - at the request of a TT list member (and it was a great
idea! ) - the Mystery Ball sample results have been moved to a separate
page from the Mystery Ball Instruction Archives. This way, if you are
new to the site or just catching up you can still "play" the Mystery
Ball without seeing the sample results until you are ready to look. The
link to the results is clearly indicated on the Mystery Ball Archives
page. All of this is found in the Pattern Section of TemariKai.com
There are three new patterns in the Patterns Section thanks to Ryan and
Glenna....
And, I've had requests to make Sarah's Book and also the Screensavers
available on electronic delivery, for those that wish to order them
this way (especially from folks outside of the US because of the
shipping costs). Electronic Delivery means that you just download the
files from a secure source after purchase rather than getting a CD in
the postal mail. Prices on these items have been adjusted to account
for not consuming the tangible CD, packaging and shipping but other
than that they are the same editions currently offered. To purchase
Sarah's Book (all proceeds still go to Dana Farber Cancer Institute)
scroll down the page about the Sarah's Book Project and you will see
the link for an electronic delivery purchase. To purchase the 2003
Screensaver, go to the Shop section of TemariKai and you will see the
link there for ED for the SS. Please remember that electronic delivery
is recommended only for those with highspeed or broadband internet
connections. It will work on phone dialups but you will have to be
patient.....

Hi everyone - hope that you are well.
Been doing some catchng up finally on all of the Gatherings that
have gone on the past months - two in the US and one in Canada
where temari makers have been able to link up together and
share... Check out the reports and reviews in the TalkTemari section -
Local Gatherings. There have been meetups in Ft Wayne and Nashville
this past fall, and also one in Canada last month.
January's Mystery Ball has been a success - some sample results are now
posted along with the directions on the Mystery Ball Archives - since
there is a new Mystery Ball now for February (no, don't get excited
that there is going to be one each month! :>)) February's Mystery
pattern is sent in by Glenna Kipp, California USA - and it will keep
you occupied through the winter doldrums. It's listed as intermediate
to advanced but - don't let that deter you from trying
it. It's easier than it looks to read - you just need to pay attention
to it! Find it in the Pattens section of TemariKai.com
I'm pleased to tell you that the Sarah's Book project has raised
$1350.00 US to date, all proceeds going to Dana Farber Cancer Institute
in Boston, MA USA. Check out the Sarah's Book Project link on the
TemariKai homepage if you don't know about it.
Remember too that the Keeping Vigil page for those serving in the Armed
Forces is still very much a part of TemariKai.com - the link is off of
the TemariKai homepage. If you have someone listed there, please check
to be sure the information is up to date; if you would like to add a
service person please email me and we'll get it right in.
Thanks much,
Ginny T.
