Last year I was asked to consider
producing a Temari 12 month wall calendar... which we did as a
collaborative effort throughout the online Temari community. Given that
the 2005 Innaugural
Edition has been a success we'll make it an annual tradtion - herewith
is the
Call for Photos for the Temari-A-Month Calendar 2006. Get your thinking
and creative caps on
- whip up some temari and break out the camera. Remember we are
looking for high-quality, showcased temari (take special care in
choosing the background, which should be uncluttered and show off your
temari, and really only the temari -
see this year's
edition for examples) photos,
of
at least 200 pixel resolution and
81/2 x 11 inches finished size.
The calendars are produced
professionally - this is not an inhouse/desktop project. We need 12 or
13 8x10 inch photos. They need to be
good quality digital images (only digital as the images must all
be delivered to the publisher in digital format) with a resolution of
at
least 200 pixels, preferably 300. That means that your image must be of
sufficient digital photo quality to withstand the enlargement to 8x10
so you will want to be shooting a 4x6 or 5x8 size. With
today's digital cameras that actually is pretty easy as long as you
take your time on the shot and check your camera settings. Keep in mind
things like background,
surroundings and those
sorts of details. Going to print requires fine detail. These high
quality calendars are
printed on glossy 100 lb text weight paper in full bleed dynamic color.
They measure 8.5" x 11" when folded, and 11" x 17" when hanging on your
wall. That means that your photos have to be clear, and crisp enough to
be able to enlarged to full page size. Be sure that your camera or
scanner settings are for images for this size... reducing an image and
maintaining quality is quite doable - but enlarging a photo usually
does not give acceptable results for this type of printing. Glossy
paper and large size needs good, crisp, clear shots.
Those folks whose photos are selected
for use in the 2006 edition will have listed credit in the calendar
and their names entered into a drawing for a free calendar; all
the others will be able to purchase a calendar for cost & shipping.
You have until September 15, 2004
to send submissions (they must be received by that date), You may email
them but -these image files will be larger because
of the requirements of the image and unless you have highspeed internet
it may be a problem for you to upload. I have a broadband internet
connection so can
handle a large file transfer by email if you can, otherwise you can
burn your images to CD and send by postal mail - just
email
me for the
postal address to send them to if you wish to do this. Be sure that you
are not write protecting your images when you burn them - I need to be
able to open and edit them. This is not a guarantee that there will be
a calendar but I'll do my best - if I get 13 usable photos it will be a
go. The calendar will be
available for direct order and shipping by and to you in the mid fall,
well in time for holiday gifting.
NOTE:
All photo files submitted MUST be file names with YOUR name, and
if you are
submitting more than one image, then a sequential number. For
example if Ginny Stitcher is going to submit photos the digital image
files must be named : GinnyStitcher1.jpg , Ginny Stitcher2.jpg ,
etc. I get many, many submissions and keeping track of them becomes
wild if I have to rename every image coming in on an email.... Submit
your photo using this email link
(the email is set up to let me know it's a Calendar Photo) and attach
your image to it:
Email
Temari Calendar Photo Submission
You may submit as many images as you
like, but any person will have only one image in the calendar. I
cannot guarantee your photos will be in consideration unless you use
the email link above and name your files as asked....
